Tahir Rasheed also appreciated the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, for his role to establish SPFC that will help to promote afforestation and range management on 99,077 acres in South Punjab.
According to Awais Leghari, Federal Minister/Chairman, SPFC, ‘The land will be allotted to investors through a transparent mechanism and the Chief Minister Punjab himself has ordered to ensure transparency, so that the right people get the land, which will eventually support the wood-based industry, as sustainably farmed wood will be provided to the wood-based industry’.
The event was attended by potential bidders and the technical bids were opened in front of them. However the results of the technical proposals shall be informed to the bidders in coming few days via phone/email/courier/SPFC’s website.
‘The financial bids of only those investors shall be opened, whose technical bids are qualified. The date and time to open the financial bids will be communicated to the technically qualified bidders well beforehand’ informed Tahir Rasheed, CEO, SPFC.
While highlighting the environmental benefits of SPFC’s initiative, Tahir Rasheed said, ‘More than 5.6 million tons of CO2 will be sequestered and 13 million trees planted through the project. Moreover, the government has decided that 25 per cent of its share will comprise indigenous trees species, which will not be felled during the concession period, thus improving the forest cover of Punjab’.
