Feature story: Who started the fire?

June 15, 2018: A story published in The Friday Times investigates the reasons behind the recent forest fires in Margalla hills. The writer quotes Tahir Rasheed, CEO, SPFC on the issue, who informed that forest fires occur both naturally and are also human-induced. He also informed that upto 90 per cent of the forest fire cases in Margalla hills are man-made.

Tahir Rasheed also called for increasing vigilance, stakeholder participation, watch and ward system, establishment of fire extinguishing committees, incentivizing the culmination of forest fires for locals and offering livelihood opportunities that can help to reducing the chances of forest fires in the national park.
